Château Cantelys | Pessac-Leognan

1996, 1998, 1999 — IN MAGNUMS

This is a real find—a small number of mature magnums from three different vintages of Château Cantelys. This château, which has a reputation for producing some of the best value red wines in the Graves, borders and shares the same terroir as the Grand Cru estate, Château Smith Haut Lafitte. In fact it is also owned by the same family and receives the same loving attention as it’s more famous neighbour. From three good vintages in the Graves, these have all the great minerality and pencil shaving characteristics one expects of really good Pessac.

Our tasting notes

• 1996 – reaching peak maturity now this drinking really well—rich and full of fruit.

• 1998 – still young and fresh—it opens up in the glass to show mineral rich berry fruit flavours

• 1999 – much in the style of the 1998 but a little lighter but with more elegance
