Château Canuet, Margaux | Bordeaux

1999

NEW

Highly drinkable and mature claret from the younger vines from carefully selected parcels within the vineyards of Cantenac-Brown, the famous Margaux 3rd growth. Wine guru Robert Parker believes that, along with 2000, 'the 1999 is potentially one of the very best Cantenac-Browns produced in 2-3 decades' —the same of course applies to its 2nd wine!

This is great claret with all the classic elegance and full body that one expects of a really good Margaux and will be perfect for drinking over the next 2-3 years. The ideal, affordable dinner party wine.

About Château Cantenac-Brown:
The vineyards of Château Cantenac-Brown, which in the 1855 classification was ranked as a 3rd Growth, cover 42 hectares of gravelly soils in the west of the Margaux appellation. This Medoc-style soil means that the they tend to compose their wines of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc 30% Merlot giving the wines a subtle and intense bouquet, and a rich and round palate.

The origins of the Château lay with Jacques Boyd, a man of Irish decent, who bought the estate in the mid 18th Century. It was then, through marriage, passed onto the artist John Lewis Brown, who also owned Château Brown.

Until recently it was owned by the Axa-Millésimes group, which includes such properties as Châteaux Pichon-Baron, Suduiraut and Quinta do Noval, but in 2006 they sold it to Syrian-born UK investor Simon Halabi.
