Bordeaux Map

These three wines from the heart of the Médoc perfectly embody our philosophy: to provide excellent drinking wines at very affordable prices not met elsewhere. All three come from top Cru Classé Bordeaux estates. They are however ‘declassified’ (see explanation at right) and as such offer extraordinary value for money.

About Declassified wines These wines are the excess production from these châteaux—the wines are exclusively from the château vineyards. They are made and aged in exactly the same was as the Grand Vin but do not fit the winemakers exact formula as what the composition of the Grand Vin should be. They are not 2nd wines, which are normally made from the younger vines, but a blend of both the 1st and 2nd wines.

"The wines will have been sold on the understanding that a big thing isn't made of it...My advice is to seek them out by keeping your eyes peeled and your ears skinned. Oh, and keep a guide to Bordeaux handy, so that when FromVineyardsDirect tells you that their 2006 Pauillac"...is from arguably the top Second Growth, whose vineyards border Pauillac's most famous First Growth", you'll know which it is."
Jonathan Ray, Daily Telegraph

Saint-Julien 2008

20 CASES LEFT

A unique parcel from one of the most famous St-Julien super seconds that normally sells for €1000+ a case (and whose 2008 was rated 96–98 by Parker). Drink 2013-2020.

“It has a fine graphite nose, with lots of savoury, deliciously juicy black fruit. That pencil-shaving finesse continues onto the palate, where the juicy, keen, vibrant energy of the fruit wooshes through to the finish. Everything is in balance in a terrific wine. 93/100 Wine of the Month”
Tom Cannavan, www.wine-pages.com

As Jancis Robinson says “St-Julien is the commune for wine connoisseurs who seek subtlety, balance and tradition in their red Bordeaux.” Situated on the left bank, St-Julien is the smallest of the 4 most famous Haut-Médoc appellations. Despite this it boasts five superb second growths (most famously Ducru Beaucaillou, Léoville-Las-Cases and Léoville Barton), two really excellent third growths and four very good fourth growths.

Lovely Merlot-based wine from the most famous Margaux 3rd Growth. Drink 2011–2020.

“Made with grapes from an estate that produces one of the world’s most sought after wines. Produced with the same passion—it is at €18.95– miraculously affordable.”Jonathan Ray, Daily Telegraph

The largest commune in the Southern Médoc, in the best vintages the major Châteaux in Margaux produce wines that combine elegant structure and superb concentration with a silkiness and fragrance that is not found elsewhere.

Pauillac 2006

A stunning & exclusive parcel of declassified wine from one of Pauillac’s greatest super-second growths whose vineyards border Château Latour. Drink 2011-20.

“The 2006 Pauillac and 2006 Margaux are wines that could easily cost a three-figure sum. Top class Claret at a fantastic price.”
Brian Elliott of Scotland on Sunday

“It is already lovely, but will keep for years, and is delicious now if you open it for two hours before serving. It is a wine for all of us who want to drink really great wine but can no longer afford the top Grand Crus.”
Simon Hoggart, The Spectator

Pauillac is the epi-centre of the Médoc and has more of the greatest Bordeaux Châteaux than any other appellation including 3 of the 5 first growths— Latour, Lafite, Mouton Rothschild, and super seconds Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, Pichon Lalande as well as rising stars Grand Puy Lacoste, Lynch Bages and Pontet Canet. Pauillac lies on a gravel plateau and its wines are known for their rich mineral flavours.
