Château de Fayolle White | Bergerac

2010

NEW

A terrific white from the Bordeaux/Bergerac border. Both the vineyard and Château de Fayolle date from the 15th C, just after 300 years of English Plantagnet rule came to an end in Aquitaine. Ch. Fayolle's limestone and chalk terroir on a tributuary of the Dordogne, the Marmant, with its deliberately low yield, no herbicides and consummate winemaking by Jean Gazaniol in oak barrels, is, we believe, one of the finest in the Bergerac appellation. Medaille d'Or in 2011. A delicious and much cheaper alternative to white Graves. Extraordinary value for money.

Our tasting notes
A clean fresh nose with grassy lemon flavours. The Semillion takes the edge off the Sauvignon and gives the wine more body and a long finish. Punches well above its weight for the price and, while excellent by itself, it is a serious food wine with seafood and white meat.
Wine data
Grape variety:80% Sauvignon, 20% Semillon
Appellation: Bergerac
Alcohol: 13.5%
About Bergerac
Chateau de Fayolle has reduced both the size and yield of its vineyard, in order to make wines of great delicacy and charm. New head winemaker Jean Gazaniol studied with the renowned Emile Peynaud, who is widely credited with revolutionizing winemaking in the latter half of the 20th Century.
