Pessac-Léognan | Bordeaux
1998
SOLD OUTIn the hunt for mature high-class claret at a reasonable price we have managed to get our hands on an exclusive, and sadly very small, parcel of declassified Domaine de Chevalier. Domaine de Chevalier, whose 1998 sells for £600-£700 a case, is one of the very top Pessac-Léognans (after Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion), with a reputation for wine making excellence. From the 1998 vintage, which was a particularly good vintage in the Graves, this wine is fully mature and drinking beautifully now. It should stay at its peak for another 3-4 years, possibly more. It is almost impossible to find mature claret of this quality at anything like this price.
Our tasting notes
Purple with hints of ruby. A very sophisticated, fruit-driven wine. Quite forward, excellent flavours, balance and acidity. This is a very well made claret that is reaching its peak now. Quite delicious.Wine data

About Domaine de Chevalier
Uniquely located in a pine forest, this Grand Cru Classe estate is, after Haut- Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion, the best in the Graves. Its reputation continues to grow, especially since they took on famed winemaker, Stephane Derenoncourt, as their consultant. It is also distinguished by the fact that it is one of the Graves estates to produce both first class red and white wines.
